Trump Freezes Out Public Schools
While Big, Bad Bill funds national private school coupon scheme
North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson is suing the Trump Administration.
He explains:
As part of a funding freeze initiated by Trump’s Department of Education, North Carolina is waiting (indefinitely) for $165 million.
Jackson notes:
These funds support afterschool and summer programs for over 10,000 students, STEM education, adult literacy classes, mental health support, services for English learners, and smaller class sizes for elementary school kids.
And if the freeze isn’t reversed soon, about 1,000 educators in our state could lose their jobs - just weeks before 1.5 million kids return to school.
Nationally, the frozen funds amount to around $7 billion.
In Tennessee, the funds amount to $118 million. Of course, in the Volunteer State, Gov. Lee is all-in on Trumpism and so is cheering the demise of public schools.
While Trump holds public schools hostage, he’s also creating a gravy train for unaccountable private schools:
The total cost to taxpayers for federal vouchers? $20 billion.
Unaccountable private schools have been with us since the business leaders who were running public schools blurred the lines between public and private schools……and that was over one hundred years ago. Keep writing about the state of education. I appreciate everything that you write.
