“Why Congressional Democrats are still play-acting instead of walking out and denying quorums is beyond me”
A simple majority is needed for a quorum. Unfortunately this isn’t an option. The only option is to shut down the government over the budget and to continue to filibuster in the Senate. To be honest, the best chance any one has of stopping anything is in the Senate. The House is much easier to get a bill passed through. It’s why we always see so much nonsense coming out of it.
Thanks, Courtney - it is true that a simple majority is required - but consistent quorum calls could throw a wrench into activities - the House has a 2-vote majority for Rs - which would mean insistence on a quorum would require that they couldn't afford to have anyone not on the floor. In the Senate, doing an actual filibuster is also an option - yes, I know the rules have changed somewhat, but Democrats can and should exercise the logistical power they do have - refusing to offer any votes for a budget in the House also forces the issue - again, the Rs would need a budget that every single one of them could agree to - I think it is essential that Democrats do everything possible - and I'm not seeing that.
I agree there is a lot they can do within the rules to just gum up the works and slow this agenda down, and they should. I think about the Tea Party and MAGA caucus a lot and how they built their power by employing those kind of tactics. Dems should take a play out of their books.
