It's an incredibly stressful profession to be in right now. We teachers are told daily that we are bad teachers. Kids don't have good test scores, and it's our fault because we teachers aren't "engaging" them. Kids can't read and kids can't write because we are bad teachers. Meanwhile, kids are allowed to have their toys- their cell phones. And No, they aren't using them for educational purposes unless it's to let AI do their written assignments. Cell phones need to be banished from classrooms.

Banning cell phones is happening in some places - like Los Angeles, for example.

Rich kids will be taught by real, in-person teachers. Everybody else- the poor kids- (because the middle class is disappearing) will be taught by inexperienced teachers following scripted curriculum or just managing kids who are taught by online programs like Edgenuity. I teach in a SOI school (School of Innovation) and the over-sight/pressure is intense.

Yes - the rich-poor gap will expand - and schools will look vastly different. I'm glad voters rejected vouchers - but also fear it may not matter.

Thanks for covering these issues, I'm trying not to think about who he's going to put in charge of education this time around. Every possiblity is likely worse than DeVos now and that's not coming from a place of caring for her "accomplishments" last time.

Agree. I would imagine it won't be DeVos (who resigned on January 7th following the insurrection) - And so, will likely be someone far worse. I could see TN's Bill Lee taking the job.

Oh yay, I just love hyper-religious assholes who are millionaires from inherited wealth (but with so much potential for growth working closer to billionaires with space projects! Nothing fucked up could possibly happen! I'm sure nothing hasn't already!)

I'm so glad my daughter starts high school next year. She's really interested in Berea College (which I'd be super proud about but know is very selective) silver lining being it's not looking like we'll accidentally make too much for her to qualify.

At least I don't have to worry about her being in class with any oligarch’s kids at Berea. We're trying to send her to an all girls school. I feel conflicted about it but not so conflicted I won't accept the gift from my in-laws. There's not been a shooting at an all girls school yet and honestly that sounds great after watching her go through EVOLV this year.
