America's elite private schools do tend to produce high academic achievement - though some of that may be a result of the income and education level of the parents. Vouchers do not always cover the full cost of tuition, and private schools are under no obligation to accept a voucher-bearing student. In terms of grades/student achievement, there are a range of private schools, and the experience here in many states has been that student performance drops in private schools when compared with public school counterparts - perhaps the rigor of the schools or the accreditation is not sufficient.
Don't bother the Republican Legislature with facts, their goal is to do away with public schools achievement be damned.
