The Kamala Harris Veepstakes is over and the winner is The American People.
Harris selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz - the guy famous for (among other things) signing a bill to provide free breakfast and lunch at school to every kid, every day.
While Tennessee policymakers have provided a combined total of $2.1 billion to the Tennessee Titans (for a new stadium) and tax breaks for big corporations, Tim Walz was directing his state’s budget toward feeding kids at school.
And here’s the thing: for less than a third of the cost of tax giveaways and Titans funding, Tennessee could feed every kid at school breakfast and lunch every day.
Harris has always been a strong supporter of public education.
In Walz, she chose a career educator who happens to be married to a career educator.
Walz coached football, taught social studies, and was a member of the teachers union.
As Governor, Walz defended public schools against the forces of privatization.
Harris made giving teachers a significant raise a key element of her 2020 campaign platform.
While using federal funds to boost teacher pay at the local level may be complicated, it’s encouraging to have a President who is leading on this issue.
In Walz, Harris has a partner who knows what it means to be a teacher.
Imagine education policy being shaped by someone who has actually been in the classroom.
Exactly this.
Our legislature 's twisted values are on display !! Feeding kids, either during the school year or in the summer!!! Why that's socialism!!!! May they see the error of their ways! Not going to happen.
